Preces and Responses

by Gideon Cox

A fresh setting of the traditional Preces and Responses form, sung at Evensong (Evening Prayer) in the Anglican tradition. The verse-and-respond form from the Book of Common Prayer has been set by many composers over a period of hundreds of years. Evensong is a congregational form crafted by Thomas Cranmer from the monastic rite of Vespers.
